FC Porto coach Jesualdo Ferreira believes that his side are in perfect shape to receive Atletico Madrid in tomorrow’s Group D Champions League encounter. The victory against Sporting on Saturday has naturally helped build confidence ahead of the clash against the La Liga strugglers.

“The last game gave us a confidence boost that enables me to say that this is the ideal moment for FC Porto to face Atletico Madrid,” began Ferreira, who made little of the absence of wingers Silvestre Varela and Cristian Rodriguez through injury.
“Nobody wins games on their own. Nobody achieves individual results on their own. Only the team can project the individuality of its players. We know that by playing as a team we can overcome the absence of one or other player considered important. That was the way in the past, that has been the way this season and that will continue to be the case.
“FC Porto will present a team with players that at this moment have the best ability to decide the match in our favour and put our plan into action defensively and offensively.”
No complacency
The Dragons will start the match as favourites, but the wily Ferreira warned about the danger the underestimating their opponents. “It makes no sense to talk about Atletico Madrid, who compete in one of the best championships in the world, in terms that underestimate them.
“Like any team, they have strong points and other less strong points, but the strategy for preparing for the game does not involve thinking they have a fragile defence. We can invert the issue and state that they have a powerful attack.”
Porto striker Falcao is also wary of the threat posed by Atletico’s attack.
“Atletico Madrid have one of the strongest attacks in the Spanish championship,” said the Columbian. “Aguero and Forlan have already shown what they can do. A lot of people talk about Atletico’s defence, but what’s certain is that their attack scores a lot of goals and that can make the difference in any game.
Porto strength

Falcao has enjoyed an extremely positive start to life in Portugal, scoring five goals in six Liga Sagres matches, and the marksman has been overwhelmed by what he has found in Porto.
“The quality and capacity of all the players have made my task that much easier. Porto is a great team. I watched them on television in Argentina and realised the individual talent that was here. Training with my team-mates has made things even easier because I have seen how intelligent they are. I’m convinced that we can go far in all the competitions we are involved in this year.”
