AC Milan
defender Thiago Silva has hailed Filippo Inzaghi's contribution to the team as he looks ahead to this weekend's game against Bologna.

Inzaghi's brace fired Milan past Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and Silva believes there is more to come from the legendary striker.

"The team has shown some excellent play. Playing alongside Inzaghi is a great satisfaction. He is a big player, a great person. He always makes himself ready when on the pitch," the defender told Milan Channel.

"He always makes the best from chances and I hope he scores plenty in our next game."

That game will be against Bologna who have yet to record a win this season. However, Thiago Silva has asked for caution.

"It will be a very important game for us. We have to rediscover our winning ways in the league because we have not won since week one," concluded the defender.

Far from focusing on Sri Lanka's recent form, which has been good, Steyn was keen to highlight why he felt South Africa would beat them. "They've played well, but they haven't played in conditions like this. They haven't been in South Africa in a long time, some guys came here for the IPL but that was in the winter, when the ball wasn't doing a lot and it was 20/20 cricket.

"We'll see how they go about it, they've played on flat wickets in Sri Lanka and you watch them on TV and it's 360 (runs scored) plays and 340 and you think to yourself 'geez, these guys can play' and then they come here and you realise that a par score is 260, that's a 100 less, so will they be able to achieve that... I don't know. We'll do our video analysis, we'll focus on their weaknesses and try to cut off their strengths.

Real Madrid welcome Xerez to the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday evening with every onlooker expecting a comfortable win for the hosts, and coach Manuel Pellegrini has revealed how he has prepared his team for the match.

"There was a meeting [between the players and coaching staff] with a summary of every game we have played so far, in order to highlight the positives and the negatives," the tactician told AS.

"We are prepared both for a team that comes to sit in their own penalty area, as for one that wants to win the game."

There are question marks over whether Sergio Ramos will make his comeback from injury tomorrow, but his coach is glad to have him back in training as his versatility is invaluable.

"For me, Ramos is a full-back but he has the versatility that allows him to play in different positions without no problems."

Lucas Neill has admitted he gambled with his future in football by becoming a free agent this summer and that the decision paid off with his £40,000-a-week deal at Everton.

The Australia international signed a one-year contract with David Moyes's side on Thursday night, having failed to agree an extension to his £80,000-a-week deal at West Ham United and seen proposed moves to Atlético Madrid and Sunderland collapse over personal terms.

Neill says he gave serious consideration to leaving the Premier League, ideally for Atlético, but the uncertainty, running into the second month of the season, has been made worthwhile by the move to Goodison Park.

"It was different," Neill said of this summer. "It wasn't the intention but there was a lot of interest and I just got that gut feeling and believed Everton was worth the wait. I was in a privileged position where I didn't have to worry about the window. As a result of that it has worked out really well, the fact that I had this opportunity.

"The Atlético Madrid interest was genuine but, as you can see, they have a lot of problems there and perhaps the timing wasn't right. I'm not going to deny that I was very excited about the opportunity to move country, learn a new language and a different style of football at a club in the Champions League. It was one to consider but it didn't happen. It is what it is and I'm delighted to be here."

Neill has not played a competitive game since June but claims he could make his Everton debut, if selected, against another of his former clubs, Blackburn Rovers, tomorrow. The defender added: "I've been working with the Australian fitness coach, Darren Burgess. He's had a heart rate monitor which I download every day on to my computer.

"He sends me fitness programmes to do with a personal trainer at the gym and on my own most nights. Mentally it's hard to go out and train on your own but it's all been worth it."

Xerez host Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday evening as they search for their first victory in the Primera Division, and Miguel Angel Lotina has warned his side that they must do a professional job.

"Xerez won't make things easy for us," Lotina affirmed to AS.

"We must be a competitive side. As soon as we think that they are a promoted side who have no points, we start to lose the game. We must play with maximum intensity.

"We also said that Espanyol were dangerous, and they beat us," he added.

Lotina is currently not worried about positions in the league, as only three games have been played in the Primera Division, but los Blanquiazules must change their mentality if they are to move up from 13th place in the standings.

"Right now, the league table doesn't say anything. Atletico Madrid, for instance, have one point.

"[But] the image that we have is not one that corresponds with a team. The only requirement that the fans make of us is that we play good football with intensity, and the supporters have been thinking that we are spineless.

"We can't allow this to continue - this image must be erased as soon as possible."

This match now looks less like a show of Manchester City's resources than a test of their adaptability when circumstances are against them. In theory, the suspension of Emmanuel Adebayor and injuries to other attackers will limit their capacity to take the game to United. The derby still has an enhanced status not only because of the sums lavished on the visitors and the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson has disparaged them, but also because City are level with United on points despite having played one game fewer.

The little Italian has enjoyed mixed success in his first major managerial role. Attempting to bring some of his trademark flair to his side, he received rave reviews for avoiding a relegation battle and leading the Hammers to a 9th-place finish in 2008-09. However, consistency has evaded him and you are never quite sure which side is going to turn up. The beginning of this season has proved to be an epitome of his time in charge, drawing against Blackburn, beating Wolves, but losing to Tottenham and Wigan - meaning they are in the bottom half of the table. With his eyes on success on all fronts, Benitez has struggled to assert the same dominance that Manchester City and Chelsea have so far done in the Premier League this season. A well-prepared manager, he will have his gameplan to stop the Hammers from firing, but needs to avoid another defeat (as Liverpool have already lost the same number of games this season as they managed in the whole of last season). Rotating his players may cause a few dressing room strops, but he should still have the firepower to pick up a win and will want a similar performance to the dominant 3-0 display in this fixture last season. Mark Noble v Yossi Benayoun Noble is the longest serving player currently in the West Ham squad and has notched up over 100 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2004. An established England Under-21 international, his presence in the centre of midfield has proved to be an important part of the side and his ability to track back and close down the opposition could come in useful against the likes of Benayoun. Noble's work rate marks him out as one to watch, although he also has the skill to pick a pass and unlock the Liverpool defence too. Benayoun returns to Upton Park after Liverpool paid £4 million to sign him in 2007, despite claiming he would sign a new deal in London. It was a good move though, as in his two years at Liverpool he has already scored twice as many goals than in his two years at the Hammers - and three of those came against Burnley in his last Premier League game. Capable of unlocking a defence, Benayoun's technical skill on the ball is a valuable asset to Liverpool's attack and he will have something of a point to prove after his transfer left an unpleasant taste in the mouth.

vs
Portsmouth

Match Schedule:

Time: 14:00 (GMT)

Aston Villa will be looking to heap more misery on hapless Portsmouth at Villa Park on Saturday and continue their recent good run of form.

Martin O'Neill's men have put their opening day defeat at home to Wigan firmly behind them and, despite failing to qualify for the group stages of the Europa League, have won three consecutive Premier League games.

Portsmouth on the other hand are in danger of being cast adrift at the foot of the table having lost all five of their league games to date.

Manager Paul Hart remains calm but even the most optimistic of Pompey supporters may be questioning whether their side can really turn the tide at Villa Park.

However the South Coast club will be buoyed by the fact that Villa invariably struggle at home. The Villans only won seven of their 19 home games last season, drawing 10 and losing twice.

Having already lost 2-0 to Wigan at Villa Park this term O'Neill will be looking to build on the 1-0 success over Fulham on home soil and raise his side's confidence in front of their own supporters.

Hart has been busy in the transfer market in recent weeks having lost a number of his star players over the summer and he will be hoping they can gel just enough to get a result.

Villa have no new injuries to contend with but O'Neill must wrestle with the idea of whether to stick with Gabriel Agbonlahor as a lone striker or bring in either John Carew or Emile Heskey to help lead the line.

The Villans looked bereft of ideas in the derby against Birmingham last week until Carew came on deep into the second half and subsequently nodded the ball down for Agbonlahor to head a late winner, and he appears to be at the front of the queue should his manager wish to change his system.

New signings Richard Dunne, James Collins and Stephen Warnock all made impressive debuts against the Blues last week and all should make their home bows against Pompey.

Defenders Curtis Davies (shoulder), Wilfred Bouma (ankle) and winger Stewart Downing (foot) all remain sidelined while Luke Young is still struggling with a thigh problem.

Portsmouth have no new injuries to concern manager Hart ahead of the trip to the Midlands.

Defender Steve Finnan returned to training this week following hamstring trouble but is still not deemed fit enough to make his first appearance for the club.

Fellow defender Herman Hreidarsson is also nearing a comeback after a foot problem but the Villa game has come too soon for the Icelander.

Other absentees include midfielder Papa Bouba Diop (hamstring) and new striker Aruna Dindane who is undergoing a two-week fitness programme to help try and cure a knee injury.
