Sporting Gijon vs Real Zaragoza Preview 24/09/2009 La Liga Primera Division

After a minimum triumph over Almeria in front of their fans, Gijon managed to fight a point in the tough away game against Valencia, when were outnumbered for the most of the game. Zaragoza disappointed their fans last weekend when they lost to Valladolid at La Romareda.

The last time Gijon won Zaragoza was thirteen years ago

After the expected defeat against Barca, Gijon managed to pick up their first three points this season, after celebrating a minimum win over Almeria. Last weekend Gijon recorded their first draw this season, when they outnumbered gave solid resistance to Valencia. The heroes of the game were Barral and Arnolin, the scorers of the first goal and later on the equalizer.

Coach Manuel Preciado won’t be able to count on Michel Madera, who booked a red card in the game against Valencia, so young Cristian Portilla will get a chance to make his debut. This players spent last season catching the ropes in Ponferradina and now he successfully plays in Gijon reserve squad, which was an excellent recommendation. The problem for the coach will also be the absence of two regular starters, Alberto Botia and Jose Angel, who got minor injuries in the last game, so Alain and Gerard Autet will start their first game this season. Carmelo, Culrear, Matabuena, Angel and Botia are all sidelined though injuries.

Zaragoza also have troubles with injuries

After a minimum win over Tenerife at home, Zaragoza lost the next two games. One of the main reasons for team's poor performance is certainly the great number of injuries, but there are also many new players in the team that are yet to adapt to Primera standards. Zaragoza did their best in the duel against Valladolid, but it wasn’t enough to take a point, while Jorge Lopez managed to pull one back.

Coach Marcelino Garcia Toral can’t count on one of the best players in the team, Uche, who got a nasty injury two weeks ago, which might put him out for the most of the season. Nigerian's injury forced the management to find the adequate replacement as soon as possible. Coach Garcia Torel will stick to his standard formation with two strikers, so aside from regular Arizmendi, Jermaine Pennant, the biggest signing this season will start up front. In this game coach can’t count on injured Herrera, Amo, Lafita, Uche, Diogo, Braulio and Laguardia.

Betting verdict

Gijon started working hard for the necessary points, they need to stay in Primera. Zaragoza have the same aim, but they are in big problems as several starters are absent. The visitors have gone thirteen years without losing at El Molinon, which will be additional boost in their attempt to end the losing run. Both teams would settle for a point, which is why we don’t expect aggressive football, so it is best that you bet on under 2.5 goals.

Inter have shot up to the top of the table, and Diego Milito hopes Genoa do them a favour when they play Juventus tomorrow.

Milito scored the Nerazzurri's second goal in a 3-1 win at home to Napoli on Wednesday night to send his side a point clear in the table. Juve have a game in hand against the Grifoni on Thursday night, and 'El Principe' has sent a message to his former team-mates.

"Genoa against Juventus? I will be supporting Genoa as I have great memories and good friends there," Milito told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

"I will support them besides the fact that they are playing Juventus."

The hitman then turned his focus back on his match-winning performance. He has scored five goals in as many games for the Nerazzurri.

"I am really happy for the good start. I didn't imagine I would score so many so early this season," added the Argentinean.

"And, thanks to the team we played a great game to win tonight.

"We were able to score early with two decent goals and that killed the match off.

"We knew this game would be important and we started well with a good mentality and attitude. Now we move on to the next game and we hope to carry on like this."
