Sampdoria will be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they host unbeaten Inter Milan at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Wednesday evening’s two-nil defeat to Fiorentina ended Sampdoria’s perfect start to the season, but they have the opportunity to bounce back immediately on Saturday against high flying Inter Milan. Sampdoria are 7/2 (SkyBet) to record their fifth win of the season, although Jose Mourinho’s side represent a much tougher task than the Blucerchiati have faced so far this season.

Last season Sampdoria managed just one victory over the top 4 in Serie A, a poor run of results, which has continued into this season, with the side’s midweek defeat to Fiorentina. Inter are even-money (Bluesq) shots to extend that sequence by recording their fifth straight Serie A vicory on Saturday.

The game has been billed as a match up of two former Real Madrid playmakers, Inter’s Wesley Sneijder, who is 15/2 (Bet365) to open the scoring, and Sampdoria’s Antonio Cassano (9/1, SkyBet) who himself was on the verge of a summer transfer to Inter, before the club had reservations about his temperament. Cassano has arguably been the player of the season so far in Serie A, and the ex-Roma forward looks more mature this term, and seems determined to prove his critics wrong.

The Inter defence hasn’t been completely water-tight this season, conceding in four of their five matches this term. SportingBet offer 8/11 that both teams score, and with Sampdoria scoring in four of their five matches, and Inter getting goals in all five of theirs, that looks like good value.

Inter are the division’s top scorers, and their new strike-force of Diego Milito (4/1, Bet365) and Samuel Eto’o (7/2, Bet365) have an impressive eight between them already. When Inter Milan score, it tends to be one of them who gets the goal, although an anomaly with Eto’o is that he has scored in all three of Inter’s home matches, but has yet to score away from the San Siro. Conversely, Argentine Milito, who has five goals in his last four matches, has scored in both of his club’s away fixtures. Though it is always dangerous to make assumptions based on such a small statistical sample, a possible explanation could be that in away matches, where Inter have less of the ball, Milito’s height is more useful in front of goal than Eto’o’s pace and craft. Regardless of reasons, the 11/10 (Bet365) on Milito finding the net at any time against Sampdoria is a more appealing bet than the 10/11 (SkyBet) that Eto’o scores.

The match, which is a meeting of the third highest, and highest scorers in Serie A, will surely contain goals, and punters who back Over 2.5 at 17/20 (Bet365) should be rewarded. A two-one Inter victory (15/2, Bet365) wouldn’t be a surprising result, although punters should be advised that last year’s fixture between the two sides resulted in a one-one draw (6/1, Coral)
