The Londoners beat Liverpool 2-0 in their last league appearance a fortnight ago, a result which took them two points clear of champions Manchester United.
It was the perfect response by Carlo Ancelotti's team to their only defeat of the season at Wigan a week before.
"We want to play like we did in the game against Liverpool, not Wigan. If we play like we did against Liverpool we can win," Ancelotti said.
Chelsea will be without Michael Ballack who injured his ankle on international duty with Germany, but goalkeeper Petr Cech returns to the side after suspension.
It is not known yet whether Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill will recall Emile Heskey to the starting line up for today's match.
The England striker is worried that his lack of first team football at Villa will ruin his chances of making the England squad for the World Cup next summer.
"There is a frustration factor with players when they are not playing," O'Neill said.
"It is ironic that Emile is playing regularly for England at the moment and not playing regularly for us.
"I'm not here to guarantee people places in the team and I think Emile accepts that viewpoint."
It is a 12:45 kick-off at Villa Park.
